Opening date finally announced for The Ivy in Manchester

The Ivy Spinningfields

The opening date of the most highly anticipated restaurant in Manchester this year has finally been announced, writes Alex Hornby.

Work has been taking place on The Ivy in the heart of Spinningfields for months and this morning it was announced the restaurant will open for business on Tuesday, November 27th.

And the restaurant is now taking bookings.

The restaurant, which has been an institution in London’s West End for decades, will be the biggest opening anywhere in the UK this year.

The Ivy originally opened in London in 1917 and has long been a firm favourite with celebrities and theatre stars.

In recent years the firm has opened a series of brasseries in key locations across the UK. The latest in central Manchester will be the 17th opening.

The Ivy Spinningfields will have four unique floors, each serving up a new experience.

A new development, The Pavilion, has been built to accommodate the famous restaurant.

The building is encompassed in a timber finish, while the restaurant will be decorated with The Ivy’s trademark art deco style.

On the ground floor, the traditional Ivy Brasserie will serve ‘modern British classics’ such as truffle orzo pasta and lobster linguine.

The private, glass-walled Dalton Room, on the first floor, will be available to hire for more exclusive parties.

The first ever ‘Ivy Asian’ can be found on the second floor, with a menu dfilled with Oriental dishes and Asian inspired cocktails, alongside the Geisha Room, which will be available for private hire.

Finally, Manchester’s first ever Roof Garden restaurant will be on the top floor, complete with roaring fire pits, retractable roof, and foliage.

Spinningfields is fast become one of the busiest areas in the city and eight months ago 20 Stories opened for business. The popular rooftop restaurant looks down over The Ivy.

Competition in the sector is fierce and earlier this month it was announced two popular venues The Artisan and Manchester House were closing down due to lack of trade.

Reservations can be made for any one of the floors while walk-ins will be welcomed for the Ivy Brasserie, ‘The Ivy Asian’ and Roof Garden.

Baton Berisha, director of operations for the Ivy Collection, said: “We are incredibly excited to bring the Ivy Collection to Manchester this winter.

“Situated within the heart of Spinningfields, Manchester’s luxury dining and shopping quarter, we can’t wait to showcase our different floors, dining concepts and offerings.

“There’ll be something for everyone and we hope to bring something new to the city.”
