Planning permission granted for key Toxteth housing development

Ducie Street, Toxteth

Architecture practice Falconer Chester Hall has secured planning permission for 80 apartments for a key site in Toxteth.

The mixed-tenure development, which encompasses both sides of Ducie Street, will see a blend of new apartments built behind elegant Victorian terraced facades, with new homes on the opposite side of the road offering a modern interpretation of a terraced street.

“It’s wonderful news that we’ve been able to retain the existing yellow brick facades on the north side of the street,” said project architect Robert Brym.

“We’re in the heart of the Princes Avenue conservation area so the new homes will pick up on the high quality features in the immediate area.”

The scheme is for developer West Tree Estates and will feature a mix of homes to rent and for sale.

Croft Housing Association has been appointed to manage the rental homes.

The development will provide a mix of one- and two-bed apartments, with the building behind the retained façade rising to three storeys.

The new-build development opposite will rise to four storeys. The scheme will total more than 62,000 square feet.

“This is a key site in the Granby Triangle and will add to the area’s rapid regeneration,” said Mr Brym.

“The homes are for local people and will be popular given the excellent transport links and the fact that Princes Park is just around the corner.”
