Developers set out new vision for Sale ahead of planned redevelopment

The Square in Sale has launched a new campaign to drive lettings and engage with the local community ahead of it’s planned redevelopment of the shopping mall and town centre, which includes full planning permission for 202 Simpson Haugh-designed residential units.

Property developers Maloneview, who own The Square shopping centre, commissioned award-winning design agency Studio DBD, to work alongside local photographers, illustrators and even poets to create an exciting new brand that will feature throughout the development stages of the scheme and town centre.

The WeAreOpen.Sale website celebrates Sale’s heritage, but also outlines the developers plans for the future, which includes new homes, new leisure and entertainment spaces as well extensive refurbishment of the mall and opening up the scheme to improve accessibility and connectivity to the town centre.

There’s information regarding the significant enhancements to the public realm that will be created as part of the redevelopment and its improvements to pedestrian walkways in the town that will provide a safer environment for residents and shoppers.

The creative will be used as a platform for the owners and its letting agents to showcase the existing benefits of the location and its future potential.

However, it is not just a marketing tool, the website is also reaching out to local residents, inviting them to submit their feedback and say what changes they would like to see in the future.

Michael Brown, from Maloneview, said: “We Are Open is a visual campaign that showcases the positivity and changes that are happening within the community of Sale, right now and in the years to come.

“We want the local community to be part of the process and that’s why we are asking for their feedback, which we will take on board to help create a vibrant town centre that Sale residents can be proud of.”

Nicola Harrington, director at Sixteen Lettings, said: “We know that Sale has huge potential, and now WeAreOpen.Sale is helping us to sell our vision to aspirational future traders.

“It has created the buzz we needed and now people, whether it’s residents, existing traders or new businesses, can clearly see the direction we are going in and want to part of it.”

Dave Sedgwick, owner of Studio DBD, said: “The ‘Open’ campaign is a creative message that we hope will resonate with people as we look ahead to a more positive future for Sale.

“From the colour palette that uses tones from Sale’s original coat of arms to the 33 arrows, which make up the circle of the logo – we have attempted to ensure that the town’s past is also part of its future.

“The idea is to communicate three messages: The shops are open and it’s business as usual; the owners of The Square are open to ideas and conversations with the local community; and finally, we will be opening up The Square in the near future and we want exciting new traders to come and join us.”

While the redevelopment may be some months away, owners of The Square have brought a new pop-up initiative to the East Mall, with the aim of stimulating more activity and interest in the scheme while the redevelopment plans are progressing.

The Plant Shop Manchester, Studio DBD and Denim & Art have brought a new fashion, arts and interiors retail offering as well as creative coffee mornings and workshops that local people are engaging with.

Conversations are ongoing with established and new independent traders, with further announcements expected in the coming months.
