Media business expands into South West with Plymouth site

The new site in Plymouth

Liverpool advertising media owner Open Media is expanding into Plymouth for the first time with a new digital screen.

The out of home site is situated on Plymouth’s newest and biggest leisure and entertainment destination, The Barcode at Drake Circus.

Drake Circus draws an annual footfall of 18 million people, a number which is expected to grow year on year following new redevelopments.

The digital site goes live on November 1, and will play host to many iconic brands that are wishing to target the crowd visiting the many leisure and entertainment opportunities on offer from Drake Circus, such as JD Sports.

Open Media marks a pivotal point in its 2019 strategy with this site, to add new cities to its growing out of home portfolio.

This move into Plymouth is part of a rollout of digital screens planned nationwide over 2019 to support its three-pronged strategy – stadia, retail and city centre locations.

Operating within a small team, Open Media will have created four jobs before the end of the year to support the ever-evolving expansion of the business.

Managing director Mike Smith, said: “We are so excited about the launch of our screen at Drake Circus, Plymouth, which will be our first site in the South West.

“Expanding into this new area of the country is a huge step forward for our journey here at Open.

“Working alongside Drake Circus on this project has been an enjoyable and smooth experience, and we look forward to what the future of this relationship will hold.”

Drake Circus is Plymouth’s most popular shopping destination, situated in the heart of the city and home to more than 70 of the UK’s top names and biggest stores.

Open Media will be collaborating with Drake Circus to encourage brands to capitalise on the many retail and leisure opportunities on offer through the medium of out of home.
