New development will offer affordable homes as part of major scheme

Plans for 68 affordable new homes in Preston – as part of the huge development of more than 1,100 new houses – have been submitted.

Planning and development consultancy Lichfields has submitted a reserved matters application on behalf of Countryside Properties for the site, off Canberra Lane, Cottam.

The most recent outline permission was given for the development in 2017 and this new submission deals with detailed issues relating to the site layout, scale, appearance and landscaping.

The development will comprise of a mix of one-, two-, and three-bed dwellings, with seven different house types, providing a mix of detached, semi-detached, terrace and apartments.

All of the accommodation that will be provided is affordable housing.

In terms of tenure, the site comprises 23 shared occupancy dwellings and 45 affordable rented homes.

The proposals will be considered by Preston City Council in the new year.

The Homes England-backed Cottam Hall, 150-acre site, was initially approved in 2012 with an overall outline planning permission for 1,100 homes, and retail and commercial space.

Homes have already been developed on the wider site by a range of housebuilders.

Kirstie Oakey, an associate director at the Manchester office of Lichfields, said: “We are pleased to be able to progress this development on behalf of Countryside Properties.

“This a key development in supporting the further growth of this new community in Preston and will bring much-needed new and affordable housing to the town.”
