Luxury cinema opens for business in Manchester

Everyman Manchester

An up-market cinema which serves cocktails and has a bar and restaurant has opened for business after being granted a drinks licence.

The Everyman chain has opened its first cinema in Manchester at the ABC Building on Quay Street.

The company was founded in 2000 when entrepreneur Daniel Broch bought the original Everyman Cinema in Hampstead.

He has led the growth of the company with the acquisition in 2008 of Screen Cinemas to add more locations.

Following the acquisition, the group has refurbished or plans to refurbish a number of cinemas.

Those already refurbished include Walton, Belsize Park, Baker Street, and The Screen On The Green in Islington.

The group is extending its operating area and has opened cinemas in the North. Venues includes Leeds and Harrogate as well as The Mailbox in Birmingham.

Manchester law firm Kuitsv advised Everyman Cinema on the licence for its first opening in the city centre.

Housed in the renovated ABC Building on Quay Street, the three-screen boutique cinema has a bar, restaurant and cocktail lounge space.

The cinema also has a waiter service allowing food and drink to be ordered and delivered directly to seats in each screen.

The luxury cinema, the 30th in the Everyman portfolio, forms part of the Manchester St John’s development and will showcase a selection of mainstream, classic and independent films.

Anthony Lyons, join head of licensing at Kuits, said: “It was a pleasure to advise Everyman on bringing its unique entertainment experience into Manchester city centre.

“The city’s leisure offering continues to expand with fresh and innovative concepts and by using our specialist knowledge and expertise Kuits is once again proud to be at the heart of supporting the industry’s growth.”
