Eight-storey, 557-bed student scheme unveiled for Salford

Plans for Gather Peel Park

Plans for a 557-bed new student build on the site of a disused industrial warehouse in Salford have been submitted.

The Manchester office of planning and development consultancy Lichfields lodged the proposals with Salford City Council on behalf of developers and student accommodation operator Gather Properties.

The development, with the proposed name of Gather Peel Park, is earmarked for a 0.62 hectare site, which currently houses Stervon House, on Broughton Road East, Salford.

If approved, the existing buildings, which were previously the home of a catering firm, will be demolished for the construction of two-eight storey buildings joined by a one-storey link corridor.

Imogen Zulver, a planner at Lichfields, said: “This bold scheme will help in the regeneration of a rundown area.

“It is a striking development which will enhance the public realm and provide sought-after, high-quality student accommodation.”

The site is located on the Northern boundary of the Campus Masterplan, which is currently being prepared by the University of Salford and the council.

The development will comprise 224 student cluster flats including 77 one-bed studio units, 23 two-bed units, 62 three-bed units and, 62 four-bed
flats.

There will be a commercial unit on the ground floor and the development also includes ample communal amenities and green spaces.

It will comprise two U-shaped blocks adjoined by a one-storey link fronting on to Broughton Road East.

Twenty car parking spaces are proposed, including two disabled bays and secure storage for 288 bicycles.

AHR Architecture has developed the design.
