Haulage firm forced to call in administrators after acquisition fell through

Administrators called in

A haulage firm in Trafford which operated a fleet of 30 trucks has gone into administration.

Stanian Transport, which is based in Trafford Park, was set up almost 40 years ago.

Paul Flint and Mark Firmin of Alvarez and Marsal Europe LLP were appointed Joint Administrators of Stanian Transport Limited (“Stanian”) earlier this week.

The business and assets of Stanian were sold to HNC Transport Limited immediately following the appointment of Administrators, saving 28 jobs in the process.

The company had suffered in recent years in respect of declining margins in the haulage sector as a whole, which was further not helped by a recent aborted acquisition of a competitor.

The cancelled takeover led to unsustainable pressure on cash-flow resulting in no other option than seeking the protection of an administration in order to secure a more viable solution.

Paul Flint, joint administrator and managing director at A&M, said: “In what is a challenging sector, we are delighted to have secured the future of this long standing, well respected North West haulier, preserving all 28 jobs in the process, and providing continuity for its loyal customer base ”

A&M were assisted on the transaction by Will Jones of Knights plc.
