Building firm to close its Manchester operation

The Green Room

Building specialist Bouygues Construction has announced it is closing its Manchester offices.

The company has said it has taken the decision as a result of falling demand.

The company is also closing its office in Birmingham and around 20 staff will lose their jobs as a result of the closures.

According to reports the firm has been laying off staff for a number of months.

The firm is working on The Green Rooms, a 19-storey residential scheme formerly known as Lightbox at MediaCity.

Future business development and pre-construction will be managed from Bouygues offices in Bristol and London.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “Owing to a challenging market in the North and Midlands, we have decided to merge the Manchester and Birmingham operations of Bouygues UK with our offices in the South West and Wales.

“This will happen over time and existing projects in the Midlands and North West will continue unaffected through to completion.”

“We are consulting with staff affected and will look to redeploy them to other roles where possible.”

The firm emphasised that other Bouygues Group companies based in the North and Midlands were unaffected by the decision.
