The proposed expansion of the Anfield Road stand

Liverpool Football Club has released images of its proposed extension to its Anfield Road stand.

The club has launched a public consultation over its plans to add around 7,000 extra seats to the goal end stand, which would take the ground’s overall capacity to around 61,000 spectators.

The expansion is aimed at increasing income to compete with rival Premier League clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur who have impressive ground capacities, as well as enabling the club to host concerts and public events.

Liverpool FC chief executive Andy Robertson said: “For any expansion to the Anfield Road Stand to go ahead we need certainty on three key areas.

“Firstly, that we are able to reach agreement with local residents, businesses and community groups that they will allow the expansion plan to take place, which will mean closing a short section of Anfield Road between 96 Avenue and Skerries Road.

“Secondly, that we have the right sustainable financial and economic model in place to deliver a long-term sustainable Anfield.

“And lastly, that we are able to successfully navigate the complex planning landscape. We need to be satisfied on all three points for work to proceed.”

The club has distributed more than 5,000 leaflets to Anfield residents inviting them to the public consultation.

This first stage public consultation began last Friday, November 29, in The Kop Bar, Kop Stand. It is contuing on Monday, December 2, 4pm-8pm; Tuesday, December 3, 12pm-4pm.

There was also a pop-up information stand at Anfield Road on Saturday, November 30, when Liverpool played Brighton; and it will also be open on the day of the club’s derby with local rivals, Everton, this Wednesday, December 4, 5pm-8pm.

The club has also set up on online hub to enable supporters to view the new proposals and submit feedback via an online form.
