In Brief: George Davies accounts; Grant for cable firm & more

MANCHESTER law firm George Davies has asked us to clarify yesterday’s report on its financial performance.

Profits at the Fountain Street-based practice fell by £670,000 to just over £2m, not to £670,000. Turnover was down in the year to the end of April 2009 by 9% to £6.28m

LANCASTER-based hi-tech start-up CableSense, has been awarded a £213,000 grant for research and development by the North West Development Agency.

The company has developed an innovative approach to managing large scale, structured cabling systems, and the NWDA’s grant is designed to accelerate the delivery of its proposition to market.

CONSTRUCTION giant Balfour Beatty has won construction management contracts worth more than £20m for civil engineering works on roads across the North West.

The four year contract covers south Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. There is also an option to extend the contract for a further three years.

The contract win was one of several the company announced, with a total value of £270m across the UK highway and rail sectors.

In addition, the microsite also holds factsheets containing information on the Government’s Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme, which Santander participates in and the bank’s agreement with the European Investment Bank.
