E-scooter firm gears up for growth ahead of change in law
Premium adult electric scooter company, AER Electric has welcomed th Government’s plans to fast-track e-scooter trials as part of a national initiative to get people back to work using alternative, sustainable methods of public transport after the lockdown.
Working in collaboration with Berlin-based designers, AER designed the AER 557 e-scooter specifically for road use.
Created from scratch, the AER 557 is the world’s first ‘vehicle grade’ high-performance scooter and gained international recognition at the industry-leading Eurobike trade fair, winning best start-up award 2019.
At the exhibition, the judges cited it as “a high-performance e-scooter that works, feels and rides differently to any other electric scooter on the market.”
Established in 2017 by John Irving, AER has raised £1m to date through the UK’s Enterprise Initiative Scheme (EIS).
The company’s valuation has risen from £900,000 to £7.5m in the past two years.
As part of its expansion plans, AER has, this month, taken a 5,000 sq ft space at Waterside House, a newly-refurbished mill in Macclesfield, Cheshire, from where it will manufacture and distribute its e-scooters for the UK.

“We never could have foreseen the seismic shift in demand we are seeing towards e-scooters as the Government looks at how we as a nation can return to work safely.
“Whilst we knew there would be demand for a more energy-efficient mode of travel in the UK eventually, our customer base has been predominantly in the US and in many European countries where e-scooters are road-legal.
“We look forward to hearing how these trials progress and, if successful, we believe our award-winning product is well-placed to meet the need of commuters looking for a more energy-efficient and safer way to travel.”
