Multimillion-pound sale of former factory site paves way for 230 new homes

Commercial property consultancy Matthews & Goodman has advised Carlisle-based Kingmoor Park Properties on the multimillion-pound sale of Bridgewater Business Park in Leigh.

The 12-acre site has been bought by a consortium comprising MCI Developments and Your Housing Group, with LM6 acting on behalf of the buyers.

The former BICC cable manufacturing facility, which has been operating as a multi-let industrial estate, had outline planning permission in place for a residential development when a sale was brokered with the new owners.

MCI intend to build out the affordable housing scheme for Your Housing Group.

Geoff Dallimore, Kingmoor Park Properties commercial director, said: “This is a great result, despite the difficult current economic climate and we are delighted both with the service Matthews & Goodman gave us and the fact that the site will now enjoy a new lease of life, helping the community which played such an important part throughout its own operational life.”

David Newman, partner at Matthews & Goodman and the team leader in this transaction, said: “Getting the deal across the line has not been without its challenges.

“However, we have secured an excellent result for all parties – especially for the people in Leigh who will soon have access to almost 230 affordable new homes.”

Phil Morley, director at LM6, agreed that while the deal and planning, in particular, was not straightforward, working as a team with his clients Your Housing Group and MCI Developments and the vendor’s agent, ensured a satisfactory conclusion for all parties.
