Sweets maker sends love to NHS with special edition range

NHS Love Hearts packs

British sweets manufacturer Swizzels has launched special edition bags of its iconic Love Hearts confectionery to support the NHS.

The NHS branded Love Hearts bag is filled with mini rolls of the sweet treats featuring messages such as ‘Thank You’, ‘My Hero’, ‘Be Kind’ and ‘Smile’.

All Swizzels’ profits from the sales of the NHS Love Hearts bags will go directly to the NHS.

The funds will be donated to a dedicated intensive care unit research fund, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and will contribute to the continued research into COVID-19.

Jeremy Dee, managing director of the New Mills-based business which has a Middlewich manufacturing plant, said: “In these unprecedented times we wanted to show our appreciation and support for the outstanding work that the NHS is continuing to do across the country.

“The Love Hearts message is focused on sharing the love and, at a time when this sentiment is more important than ever, we hope people will do this by purchasing a bag to show their support.

“From all of us at Swizzels – thank you to every single person who works for the NHS.”

Dr Brendan McGrath, consultant in anaesthesia & intensive care medicine, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re delighted that Swizzels has created this special product and that the profits generated from its sale will help fund much-needed research into COVID-19.”

Swizzels is the largest independent British-owned manufacturer of sugar confectionery in the UK and is still run by members of the families who founded the business back in 1928.

The company makes a range of well-known products, including Love Hearts, Squashies, Refreshers, Drumstick Lollies, Rainbow Drops, Double Lollies and Fruity Pops.
