Plans approved to transform gateway to North Merseyside town

Plans for Whitefield Drive

Plans have been approved by Knowsley Borough Council to build 226 houses in a development that will transform a site at the gateway to Kirkby, Merseyside.

The proposals by Warrington-based housing provider, Your Housing Group, in partnership with ENGIE, include 266 houses, 106 for shared ownership, 106 affordable rent, and 54 for private rent.

The development, on Whitefield Drive in Kirkby, will be called Whitefield Brook after the nearby Kirkby Brook.

It will comprise of two-, three- and four-bedroom bespoke, contemporary designed units in a beautifully landscaped community setting.

ENGIE has been appointed to deliver the design and construction of the new homes in accordance with Your Housing Group and Knowsley Council’s specifications. Architects are Eden Building Design.

Richard Jones, director of growth for Your Housing Group, said: “We are really pleased to be able to now move forward with this development and bring investment in this part of Kirkby, adding to the wider regeneration of the area.

“This development will provide much-needed affordable homes and enable many local people to take their first step on the property ladder through shared ownership.”

Pete Hayes, head of land & partnerships at ENGIE, said: “We are delighted to see the culmination of many months of hard work between ENGIE, YHG and Knowsley Borough Council finally receive planning approval.

“All three organisations have worked collaboratively over a difficult period for the industry to see a planning application both submitted and approved in the period of lockdown.

“Now we can look forward to the real work of delivering a transformational place for the Kirkby community and beyond to live and thrive.”

This development has been funded through Your Housing Group’s strategic partnership with Homes England.

Your Housing Group was announced as one of the Government housing agency’s strategic partners in January 2019, receiving £87.5m in funding in line with the Government’s aspiration to provide 11,000 affordable new homes across the country.

Work is expected to start on site in Autumn 2020.
