Recruitment drive set to begin following ground breaking at housing project

Housing association Weaver Vale Housing Trust is set to start work on a development of 41 homes for affordable rent in Warrington.

The site in Latchford, the organisation’s first development in the town, will see construction of 41 apartments begin this month.

The development will take shape on the site of the former Richmond Social Club, which closed its doors in 2019 after falling into decline.

Developer Lane End Group will build the three-storey apartment complex on Richmond Street, a mainly residential area a short drive from Warrington town centre.

Gareth Rigby, director of property at Weaver Vale, said the move represented the Trust’s commitment to improve housing opportunities for people of all ages throughout Cheshire.

He said: “Weaver Vale Housing Trust is dedicated to addressing housing shortages by providing safe, affordable homes for all throughout Cheshire. The Latchford site is our first development in Warrington, and we are delighted that work is set to begin shortly.

“These new homes will be offered at affordable rent and will transform the area formerly occupied by the social club. We look forward to making a positive impact on the community in Latchford and seeing these plans take shape.”

In the next few weeks Lane End’s social enterprise, ‘New Beginnings’ and Weaver Vale will launch a job recruitment push to give opportunities to local people across the borough.
