Hotel secures six figure funding to support refurbishment

Briars Hall Hotel

Operators of The Briars Hall Hotel have invested in its future after receiving a six figure funding package from Allied Irish Bank (GB).

The loan facilities structured by the bank have supported a major refurbishment programme that commenced during the hotel’s forced closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown that was put in place by the Government earlier this year.

Originally an 18th century country manor house, Briars Hall is an independent hotel, weddings and events venue with onsite beauticians and hair salon.

It is located in Lathom, near Ormskirk in West Lancashire.

Set within five acres of mature gardens and woodland, the hotel promotes itself as an ideal location for business or leisure with superb facilities for weddings, banquets, and seminars.

Mark Higham, operations manager of Briars Hall Hotel, said: “COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the hotel and leisure sector, and we were all hit hard by the forced closure of the business back in March.

“However, taking a positive approach we decided it was the ideal opportunity to undertake an extensive refurbishment programme to enhance our facilities further for our returning customers. The results have been very well received after our recent re-opening.

“Externally we have restored the building and painted it to bring it back to its beautiful best and also resurfaced the car park.

“Inside the hotel all of the downstairs areas have been decorated to bring them up to the same modern standard of the Stones Grill and Carvery restaurant which was fully refurbished last Autumn when the new carvery offering was introduced.

“All 25 bedrooms are being fully refurbished so that they are at their optimum best for the celebration of our upcoming 50th anniversary as a hotel wedding and events venue.

“All this has been possible thanks to the funding facilities provided by Allied Irish Bank (GB).

“We have a great relationship with the team at the Liverpool office who have supported us since we first acquired the hotel 17 years ago. They really understand our business and aspirations and their backing during this challenging period has made a huge difference.”

Jonny Beckwith, area director Liverpool at Allied Irish Bank (GB), said: “The past few months have been difficult for all businesses and the hotel industry has faced greater challenges than ever expected.

“We are delighted that the hotel has successfully re-opened and that they have been able to welcome back customers to the hotel and its popular restaurant which has also been part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

“I am pleased we have been able to secure appropriate funding to help them invest in the future success of the hotel. They have demonstrated strength and courage during what has been a truly unprecedented and hard time for everyone, turning a negative into a positive by taking the time to refurbish the hotel to raise their standards even higher.”
