Miller Homes has announced plans for around 240 new homes after agreeing the purchase of the 18-acre Northenden Campus from The LTE Group following a rigorous sale process by Cushman and Wakefield.

The Manchester College is currently located on the site, between Wythenshawe Park and Princess Parkway.

Miller Homes and the LTE Group are working in partnership to develop and create a legacy for the site, which was formerly home to Yew Tree School before being re-developed into the current Manchester College campus.

A series of consultation events are planned throughout March to engage with key stakeholders and the local community to develop the detail of the scheme, with a view to submitting a planning application at the end of April.

It is envisaged that the scheme will consist of high quality three- and four-bedroom homes for private sale along with 20% affordable housing.

Subject to obtaining planning in the autumn, Miller Homes will then purchase the site and begin construction in late 2021.

The Manchester College will continue to provide education and training facilities from the Northenden Campus until it fully relocates to its new campus next to the Manchester Arena in September 2022.

David Brackley, land and technical director for Miller Homes, said: “We’re excited to have been selected to work with the LTE Group to develop this land and to be bringing a collection of contemporary homes to the area.

“We believe the development’s proximity to the city centre, transport links, as well as places of work and play, will make these new homes extremely popular and very desirable places to live. We have developed a clear strategy of partnering with land owners to develop high quality schemes in well located populous areas such as this.”

John Thornhill, LTE Group chief executive, said: “Our £139m estates strategy will see us dispose of some of our sites that we no longer require to help fund our brand new facilities and extra capacity for The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester over the next two years.

“In line with these plans to rationalise our estate, we are pleased to have chosen the national housebuilder Miller Homes as our partner to develop the Northenden campus site, creating value for the area in terms of much needed private and affordable housing reflective of local need.

“Miller Homes will be actively engaging with the local community in their pre-application planning phase before developing the land and bringing their high quality, award winning homes to the area.”
