Pub site set for stylish transformation into houses and apartments

Anchorbridge Developments' proposals

Anchorbridge Developments has submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for the redevelopment of the former Greenfinch Public House on Lapwing Lane in fashionable West Didsbury.

The proposed new luxury development, to be known as Summerhill, will comprise nine high end family houses with the former public house being converted into three apartments, together with offices at ground floor level.

Manchester architects, AXI, together with planning consultants Paul Butler Associates, have been working on behalf of Didsbury-based Anchorbridge since the site was acquired from Marstons for £2.6m – advised by King Street Commercial – in August 2020.

The application has been submitted after extensive local public consultation with local residents’ groups and councillors.

Freddie Evans, managing director of AXI, said: “We are delighted to submit planning, on behalf of our client, for this exciting scheme.

“It’s been a year of hard work for everyone involved and we look forward to seeing this progress over the coming months.

“We didn’t want a scheme which turns its back on the neighbouring properties but engages and retains openness, together with a soft open boundary.
“Ecology was imperative from the outset and improving biodiversity and soft landscaping within the site.”

The scheme takes inspiration from the vernacular of Didsbury and implementing considered details from surrounding buildings.

“The design is sympathetic to the area and is intended to complement the village, rather than a contemporary statement.
