Developer plans ‘large residential scheme’ for Runcorn High Street

Runcorn High Street site

Anwyl Partnerships has secured a key site in Runcorn town centre with plans to develop a large residential scheme.

The site and existing buildings on the town’s High Street have long been abandoned and fallen into a severe state of decay over 15 years.

Proposals are currently being prepared to create an ambitious ‘need-led’ housing development that will breathe new life into the area, while delivering quality homes for a demographic lacking in quality housing provision.

Sam Oliver, senior land manager at Anwyl Partnerships, said: “This is a brilliant acquisition that has the potential to transform the local area and create quality homes for local people.

“Our draft proposals for a residential led apartment scheme are currently under way, and at the heart of the brief is the site’s ability to respond to an identified local need for affordable accommodation for the elderly.

“A much larger residential development for 77 apartments with commercial floor space was given permission several years ago, however, our proposal will seek to overcome previous delivery issues whilst capitalising on the site’s attributes and waterfront setting.

“Once our proposals are finalised, we will invite the local community and relevant stakeholders to share their views ahead of any formal planning application being submitted.”

He added: “We hope that by developing our brief with various external stakeholders, the local community will really get behind this exciting opportunity to transform and re-purpose such a prominent site. We expect to consult our proposals in January 2022.’’

Anwyl Partnerships is currently on site at Halton Court, building 119  homes in partnership with Magenta Living and Onward Homes.
