Yourgene awarded third Covid-19 surge testing contract

Manchester biotech company Yourgene has been awarded a contract  with the Department of Health & Social Care to support Covid-19 testing.

The ‘Mini Tender Winter Surge Capacity’ contract is the third DHSC contract awarded to the group this year under the Public Health England National Microbiology Framework Agreement.

The latest agreement will run until 31 March 2022.

Yourgene CEO Lyn Rees said:  “This is another strong endorsement of our progress and we are pleased to be able to support the nation’s COVID testing effort.

“Actual value for this contract will depend on the services purchased, with no committed spend at this moment in time, but we look forward to updating shareholders on the progress over time.”  

The UK has been experiencing a surge in Covid cases in recent weeks as Omicron spreads.

The country reported more than 100,000 new daily infections for the first time on Wednesday and the prime minister has warned the variant “continues to surge across the country faster than anything we have seen before”.
