£2m deal to develop new holiday destination in Cumbria

A holiday park and resort developer has paid £1.1m for land in Cumbria to develop a new leisure scheme, which will involve a further £1m of investment.

Sunderland-based The Actually Group, specialises in low carbon and environmentally sensitive holiday developments.

It already owns and operates two sites in North Wales – Rwst Holiday Lodge Park in the Conwy Valley, and Glan Morfa Lodges on Anglesey.

The latest acquisition in Cumbria comes with existing planning approval for holiday lodge developments.

The company acquired the land from a private vendor and the site enjoys far-reaching views of the Lakeland hills and fells to the south and east, and as far as the southern Dumfries and Galloway hills to the north.

The company said it is ideally placed for exploring the unspoilt landscapes of the western Lake District which are typically far quieter than the tourist hot spots of Bowness, Ambleside, and Windermere.

Offering easy access to remote fells and beautiful lakes, the site is also close to the attractive market towns of Cockermouth and Workington, which are each just a 10-minute drive, while the popular Lake District town of Keswick lies 15 miles to the east.

The site has planning permission for 15 holiday lodges and an office.

The Actually Group will now invest more than £1m to transform it into an upmarket holiday lodge destination, with work set to get under way in the coming weeks. It plans to welcome its first guests in summer 2022.

Andy Sutton, CEO at the Actually Group, said: “We’re looking forward to creating landmark sustainable staycation destinations which will complement their beautiful natural settings.”
