Park Square, in Cheadle Heath, has welcomed biomedical database and research resource, UK Biobank, to 10,000 sq ft of office space.

Stockport-based UK Biobank’s database contains genetic, lifestyle and health information from half a million UK participants.

Its research resource is a major contributor to the advancement of modern medicine and treatment, enabling a better understanding of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of serious and life threatening illnesses.

The move to Orbit Developments’ Park Square comes after a period of rapid expansion.

The site will provide high quality, modern and flexible office space to accommodate UK Biobank’s team of more than 90 staff with additional meeting and ample parking – one of the company’s top priorities.

Based on Bird Hall Lane in Cheadle Heath, Park Square boasts a 150-seat newly refurbished café, Peloton wellness studio, 100 person conference suite and plenty of outdoor space for a range of employee activities.

John Busby, UK Biobank chief operating officer, said: “Moving into Park Square has not only provided our team with the kind of accommodation you would expect of a global medical research charity, it has freed up space in our existing premises for biosample storage and laboratories, and our imaging centre, which welcomes many thousands of participants to Stockport each year. So we are delighted with the outcome.”

Rhys Owen, regional leasing director for Orbit Developments, said: “UK Biobank were keen to ensure staff returned to an environment fit for the modern biotech business and the changes currently under way on site are really appreciated.

“Having modern, well specified office space was clearly very important to them as were the wider facilities.”
