Oldham-based Howarth Housing Group has invested £1.5m in providing four new projects across Greater Manchester over the next month to increase the level of emergency and supported accommodation.

Together with LIFELINE (NW) CIC, the emergency, temporary and supported accommodation provider is adding to the 16 sites it already operates across the region, supporting 140 individuals and families recover from homelessness.

The not-for-profit organisation has procured a high-spec 27-bedroom property on Bridge Street, in Oldham, with an 18-bedroom property in Chadderton, which have both been redeveloped into high quality accommodation for people suffering with emergency homelessness.

Close by, the company is also set to open a 13-bedroom property on Horsehead Street, which will be offered as a long term supported living provision for vulnerable members of the community.

In Rochdale, the former Midlands Hotel has been transformed into a 13-bed property which will provide accommodation for some of the most vulnerable people. This follows the success of its current mixed supported accommodation building at the Old Waggon and Horses pub.

The new sites, when open, will feature ensuite rooms with communal kitchen facilities. Each site will also benefit from staff on hand 24/7 to support residents.

Benjamin Howarth, Howarth Housing Group & LIFELINE managing director, said: “The issue of homelessness across the region is ever growing, and something which will only get worse with soaring inflation and the cost of living spiralling ever higher.

“Our vision is to end homelessness across the region, and our accommodation provisions are just part of that.”

He added: “We have worked closely with the local authorities to ensure the sites will add value to the communities in which they sit, and we’re pleased to be able to support over 140 local people get the help they need in recovering from not only the symptom of homeless, but whatever caused them to be homeless in the first place.”

Howarth Housing is looking to expand into the 10 Greater Manchester localities and is continuing its expansion with around 200 more units of accommodation planned over the next 12 months.
