LEON to more than double its self-serve coffee kiosks in Asda and forecourts

Fast food outlet, LEON, is to more than double its self-serve coffee kiosks in the UK to in excess of 200 before the end of January, it revealed today (November 21).

The business is owned by Blackburn-based petrol forecourts and retail operator EG Group, whose founders, brothers Zuber and Mohsin Issa, also own a stake in the Yorkshire-based Asda supermarket chain.

More than 100 self-serve coffee kiosks will launch in Asda by the end of January, while an extra four kiosks will launch at EG service stations before the end of the year.

LEON currently has coffee kiosks in 65 of EG’s convenience stores and 33 Asda stores

Its roll-out plans reflect the growing popularity of its organic and Fairtrade coffee and how busy consumers increasingly want it on the move.

Glenn Edwards, managing director of LEON, said: “Today’s announcement marks another milestone in our expansion programme – and shows how LEON’s coffee is fast becoming a favourite with coffee drinkers across the UK.

“We continue to invest and innovate, with the intention to make LEON more accessible to more customers. Whether in our drive-thrus, restaurants, self-serve or through our grocery offer, we continue to make it easier for everybody to eat well, live well and be kind to the planet.”

LEON coffee has saved more than 11 million square metres of rainforest in partnership with World Land Trust.

The brand said it is the first on the high street to carry a triple certification, guaranteeing not only that it is organic and Fairtrade, but also that it supports the World Land Trust. For every coffee bought, LEON customers can make their contribution to helping to save the rainforest. It has also bought and preserved an area of the LEON de Montana mountain forest, Western Peru.

Alongside the roll-out, LEON has started selling grocery coffee beans and grounds in 385 Asda stores. Combining stores and restaurants, this now gives customers more than 680 locations to buy and enjoy its coffee.

EG Group completed its acquisition of LEON in May 2021, and at the end of last year unveiled an investment plan to continue opening more restaurants, creating additional jobs over the next few years.
