Women in Tech business lunch – two fantastic speakers

We’ve got a great women’s business lunch coming up soon with two of the real driving forces behind Manchester’s status not only a fast growing tech hub, but a city where women have a place in the growing tech sector.

Helen McHugh, head of engagement at TalkTalk and Naomi Timperley, chair of Industry Advisory Board at Salford University Business School & Co Founder of Tech North Advocates & Growth and Innovation Consultant at GSI will be speaking at a special TheBusinessDesk.com event, sponsored by JMW.

Both are great communicators and storytellers, with strong views and are a force for change.

Helen McHugh drove forward the Women in Tech awards in Manchester, which were supported by her employer, the Salford based (and founded) telecoms group TalkTalk, itself led by one of the rare women chief executives in a tech business, Tristia Harrison.

Her motivation to support the initiative was the fact that only 19% of tech workers in the UK are female and the fact that there’s a big gender pay gap too.

Naomi was involved as an advocate and awards judge too, and she wants to do what they can to help change things to make the North West the best place for women to work in tech.

In a report published last year they agreed that while a lot has been done, but there’s more to do to make sure the tech sector as a whole is doing everything it can.

The authors of the report spoke to a diverse cross-section of women working across tech-focused roles in our region to discuss their experiences and recommendations on ways to improve female representation at all levels.

Plus, the event will be worth coming just to get Naomi’s latest take on what Steven Bartlett has been claiming.
