Iconic Liverpool hotel acquired out of administration by German group

30 James Street

German hotel company, RIMC Hotels & Resorts, has acquired the 30 James Street hotel out of administration, for an undisclosed sum.

International real estate advisor Savills completed the deal on behalf of administrators Moorfields Advisory.

The 30 James Street site is located in the city centre and is famous as the ‘home of the Titanic’, having been the headquarters of the White Star Shipping Line.

The Grade II-listed hotel comprises 63 bedrooms along with the Carpathia Champagne Bar and Restaurant on the seventh floor.

There is also an outdoor terrace with views of the Mersey River and Liverpool waterfront.

It also houses a grand hall, providing extensive conference and banqueting facilities, as well as a spa with three treatment rooms and an indoor pool.

The property occupies a central location in Liverpool city centre, with easy access to some of the city’s most visited attractions including the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool One, Museum of Liverpool and the Tate Liverpool.

Tom Cunningham, hotels director at Savills, said: “We’re pleased to complete on the sale of this iconic city centre hotel.

“30 James Street provides quality accommodation and desirable amenities in a standout location, and we look forward to seeing the hotel take on its next chapter.”

The property is the first UK acquisition for RIMC, and its UK managing director, Duncan Gray, said: “We plan significant investment into the property and business to create an exciting and unique offer, befitting of such a prestigious building in the fantastic city of Liverpool.”

DWF Law acted for the purchaser. Law firm Hogan Lovell acted for the vendor.

The property was taken off the market in August last year after failing to attract viable offers. It was offered for sale in 2021 with a £12.5m asking price.

The site was previously part of Liverpool-based Signature Living’s portfolio.

It was marketed after the collapse of the company’s hotels division.
