Early Christmas present for Manchester with festive winter route to Lapland

Budget airline, easyJet, has announced a new winter route from Manchester, to Kittilä, in Finnish Lapland.

It will be the first time the festive Lapland link will be operated by the carrier.

Aimed at the family market for Christmas, the flight will take off for its inaugural journey on November 16.

It will operate twice a week throughout the winter season, on Thursdays and Sundays, enabling families to visit a Santa’s village.

Kittilä is located 150km north of Roveniemi in the northern Arctic circle.

The carrier believes, aside from the Christmas link, it will also appeal to winter sports lovers, stargazers looking for a glimpse of the Northern lights and those who wish to explore the snowy alpine forests in the region.

Having last year added a new route connecting Manchester to Rovaniemi in the heart of Lapland, the addition of Kittilä provides a wider choice for those from the North West considering booking a Christmas break.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: “As an entirely new destination in our network, this new connection means we are able to build on our offering from Manchester for those in search of winter breaks by providing customers more choice to enjoy an even greater range of destinations this winter.

“Lapland is perfect, especially for families with children looking to visit Father Christmas, winter ski lovers and all those wishing to explore this magical Arctic destination.”

Robert Smith, aviation director at Manchester Airport, said: “We know a family trip to Lapland is on many of our passengers’ Christmas lists, so it’s fantastic to see easyJet launching a service from Manchester to Kittilä this winter.”
