New 237-apartment scheme goes out to public consultation

Zephyr X plans (Hawkins\Brown Architects)

A public consultation round has been launched for a 237-apartment scheme in Manchester city centre.

The proposals are for a sustainable new build-to-rent development on the corner of Carnarvon Street Cheetham Hill Road, brought forward by London-based Zephyr X, which has experience in property development, ownership and management, particularly student accommodation, build to rent, and healthcare facilities.

The apartments will be located in a 23-storey development in a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, as well as a ground floor commercial unit.

Designed by Manchester-based architects, Hawkins\Brown, the building is aimed to provide an elegant and composed addition to the Manchester skyline, complementing the cluster of new buildings which is emerging around the Great Ducie Street, Green Quarter and Red Bank area.

Overlooked for many years, this is now a burgeoning part of Manchester city centre, home to a fast-growing and dynamic residential community as well as a host of characterful independent bars, restaurants and businesses.

Zephyr X managing director, Graham Haydon-White, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing forward plans for a new residential development at Cheetham Hill Road. We hope to support the ongoing regeneration of this increasingly vibrant corner of Manchester and help meet the established demand for high quality accommodation in the city centre.

“Through our consultation, which is getting under way this week, we encourage our neighbours to view our plans and let us know their thoughts.”

More information about the proposal is provided on a dedicated consultation website (www.carnarvonstreet.co.uk). Feedback on the plans can be submitted via the website until Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Following the consultation, the proposals will be finalised and a planning application will be submitted to Manchester City Council. Subject to receiving planning permission, construction could get under way next year.

In addition to Hawkins\Brown, the project team includes planning consultants EKPS and project managers KS4 Consulting.
