Estate agency changes hands in latest acquisition by national organisation

Chester-based estate agent, Denton Clark Rentals, has been acquired, for an undisclosed sum, by Lomond Group, a London-based network of lettings and sales agents.

The sale was overseen by Bolton-based Knightsbridge Business Sales, which was approached by Denton Clark’s owners who are focusing on other businesses in Liverpool.

Denton Clark Rentals was founded in 1975 and offers sales and property management services.

Leanne Boulding, operations director with Knightsbridge, achieved the disposal within two months, after receiving two formal offers.

Formed in 2020, Lomond has since acquired more than 50 companies across the UK, embracing key locations such as Scotland, Yorkshire, Manchester, Birmingham, Exeter, and the South Coast. It has further strengthened its North West presence after sealing the Denton Clark deal, its 17th acquisition in the region in less than three years.

It sees Denton Clark transfer to Matthews of Chester (MOC)’s neighbouring office.

Lomond chief executive, Jason Watkin, described the arrangement as “the perfect match”, saying: “Both MOC and Denton Clark have been matching people with property across Chester and its surrounding villages for more than 100 years between them, and share a strong local heritage.

“We are thrilled to grow our footprint in this vibrant cathedral city, where our portfolio now extends to nearly 800 properties.

“With a thriving rental and sales market, it is one of a number of areas where we will be targeting more acquisition activity in 2024.”

Jennifer Morris, who spearheaded the management of all landlords’ investments at Denton Clark, has joined the Matthews of Chester team and will continue in this role to ensure optimum continuity of service.

Lomond CEO, Ed Phillips, said: “The North West of England has been one of the heartlands at the forefront of our growth journey, with a portfolio that has tripled in size since Lomond launched less than three years ago.

“As we look to inject further pace and scale into our acquisition ambitions for 2024, our team in the North West continues to actively explore more opportunities for us to consolidate our presence in key locations – Chester being a prime example.”
