Further expansion on the menu for Far Eastern restaurant business

Tampopo, the Manchester-based independent Far Eastern restaurant, is considering new sites for further expansion, following its latest opening, in London, last year.
The business was founded by former accountant David Fox in 1997, and currently operates three Manchester sites – Albert Square, Corn Exchange and Trafford Centre, and a kiosk in East Street – as well as two London operations in the West End, and Wimbledon, which opened in 2023.
During the 2023/24 period the business achieved growth of 16%, and said it is considering opening further sites during 2024/25 in the North West, or Greater London.
David Fox said: “Our second London restaurant in Wimbledon has helped to boost our growth this year and it’s been an excellent opportunity to establish the Tampopo brand in new markets as we look to further our expansion journey.
“We have been around for 27 years and, although it’s a challenging time for the industry, our heritage, experience of the sector, and our commitment to our customers and what they want, makes us well placed for further growth.”
Tampopo has also introduced a new menu across its sites that sees the most significant changes in its history, with more than 70% new and evolved dishes.
It has been developed following around 12 months of research and development, including trips to the Far East. It is also a reflection of feedback from guests and how they like to dine and experience restaurants in 2024.
Mr Fox added: “In an ever more competitive marketplace, travel, research and development are vital to ensure we continue to focus on what our customers want.
“The new Tampopo menu has been over 12 months in the making. We are constantly evolving, just like our customers adapt their dining habits. We remain the same Tampopo at heart, but we never stand still and that is what the industry needs to thrive.
“Our new small and large plate options make it easier to choose the way to dine, graze, share, taste more, stay longer or just pop by. This is how many people like to eat in the East – food is at the heart of every interaction.
“We’ve taken inspiration from restaurants in some of the most exciting global cities in the world like Hong Kong and Bangkok.”
Brand new dishes sit alongside a host of updated additions to the new menu which have evolved over the past 12 months.
New large plates include the Thai CrispyWhole Sea Bream – a whole Sea Bream and The Yamato Fillet Steak, a Japanese style steak where ingredients are simmered slowly.
There are also three new dishes to breakfast and brunch on the new menu – The Thai Style Omelette, Hong Kong favorite, the bubble waffle served with honey, chicken, bacon and a fried egg and Tampopo’s Bali Brunch Bowl.
