Site of key housing development close to Lake District National Park put up for sale
A site with outline planning consent for 370 homes has been been put up for sale.
Cushman & Wakefield has been appointed by Homes England to launch the sale of the substantial residential development opportunity in Whitehaven, close to the Lake District National Park.
The 56.59-acre site is located in the residential area of Harras Moor, Whitehaven, Copeland, eight miles west of the Lake District – England’s largest National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Predominantly comprising greenfield land, the site has outline planning consent for 370 homes and is expected to attract interest from a wide range of residential developers due to its proximity to Whitehaven town centre, access to local amenities and strong transport links including the A595 and both Whitehaven and Corkickle train stations.
The marketing exercise relates to the first phase of the site which has an indicative capacity of approximately 300 homes. Homes England intends to complete the disposal of the first phase by March 2025.
Hannah Gradwell, Associate in Cushman & Wakefield’s Residential, Development & Strategic Advisory team, said: “The launch of this major site in Whitehaven presents an attractive opportunity to develop a significant new neighbourhood in a highly sustainable location – on the edge of the Lake District National Park – one of the most celebrated natural environments in the country.
“There are ambitious growth plans for Whitehaven and the wider region, which adds to the appeal of this development opportunity.
“We anticipate strong interest from a broad mix of residential developers.”
