Historic Mersey ferry set for launch as city’s latest restaurant, bar and events space

A former Mersey ferry will reopen next month, following a £3.5m restoration, as Liverpool’s latest restaurant, bar and events space.
Daffodil will open on Monday, December 9, after its transformation, having been left rusting in Birkenhead docks before its transformation by entrepreneurs Joshua Boyd and actor, Philip Olivier.
The vessel was previously the MV Royal Daffodil. It will be permanently moored in Canning Dock, on Liverpool’s world-famous waterfront, creating more than 50 jobs.
The restaurant offering is located on the main deck of the ship and will serve modern British cuisine rooted in tradition, opening with a special festive menu.
The Promenade bar area of Daffodil is situated on the upper deck.
Joshua Boyd said: “We’re thrilled to announce that Daffodil will be ready to welcome guests in December.
“We’ve poured our hearts into restoring this iconic vessel and can’t wait to introduce it to the people of Liverpool and visitors from around the world.”
The team has also confirmed that the Wheelhouse mini-museum exhibit, dedicated to the history of the Mersey Ferries, is still in the pipeline, pending funding.
Philip Olivier, famous for his role in the C4 TV soap, Brookside, said: “Daffodil is not just another venue, it’s an iconic piece of Merseyside’s history reborn for a modern audience.
“From the food and drinks to the events and atmosphere, we’re offering something truly unique on the waterfront.”
