Cheshire contractor in administration after posting spiralling pre-tax loss

Cheshire-based contractor, Lyjon Group, has appointed administrators after posting a big pre-tax loss.
Accounts filed at Companies House on July 22, 2024, showed the firm recorded a turnover of £7.904m in the year to September 30, 2023, down from £8.152m in the previous year.
Lyjon made a pre-tax loss of £121,772 in its 2022 financial year. This worsened in 2023 to a £1.178m pre-tax loss.
The accounts showed that the firm employed an average of 49 staff during the financial year, down from 60 the previous year.
The auditor, Blackpool-based JNB Accountancy, said in the accounts: “Based on the work we have performed, we have not identified any material uncertainties relating to events or conditions that, individually or collectively, may cast significant doubt on the group’s, and the parent company’s ability to continue as a going concern for a period of at least 12 months from when the financial statements are authorised for issue.”
Administrators from Opus Restructuring were brought in earlier this month and appointed on November 14.
Companies House records the firm as now in administration, being handled by the Milton Keynes office of Opus.
Lyjon’s registered address was switched to the Opus office yesterday (November 18).
Founded in May, 1964, the group is based in Telford Road, Ellesmere Port. Its website says it delivers projects ranging in value from £10,000 to £1.5m.
It operates four divisions, being construction, electricals, insulation and cladding.
In the past it has carried out work for local authorities including Wirral, Cheshire West, Chester, Knowsley and Liverpool.
Other clients have included Knowsley Housing Trust (Livv Housing Group), Tate & Lyle and United Utilities.
