Work starts on 157-home development on former Burtonwood RAF base

Latest Omega residential scheme

Work on the latest phase of the redevelopment of a former RAF base in Warrington is under way with homes ready to move into from the autumn.

Anwyl Homes Lancashire acquired the 12.6-acre parcel of land from Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL), a subsidiary of M2 Group, trading as Miller Developments, in September.

The homebuilder received reserved matters approval to build 157 homes from Warrington Borough Council last month.

It represents phase five of the successful Omega redevelopment of the former 600-acre RAF Burtonwood airbase on the north west edge of Warrington.

A two-form entry primary school, 35-acre country park and a commercial hub are all complete and operational as part of the wider masterplan.

Known as Eagles Green, in a nod to the base’s former motto, the Anwyl development will provide 118 private sale properties and 39 affordable homes to cater for local need.

Anwyl Homes Lancashire managing director, John Grime, said: “There’s a real demand for new homes in the Warrington area as is evident from the volume of enquiries we’ve received about Eagles Green since we acquired the land last autumn.

“Work on site has only just started, but already more than 300 people have registered interest in the homes.”

He added: “There’ll be up to 70 people working on site at a time so that we can deliver the high quality, energy-efficient homes people want and need.

“It’s likely we’ll be building here through to summer 2027, providing jobs for dozens of people on site and supporting many more in the supply chain.”

The development will include a good choice of private sale properties with one- to five-bedroom designs, alongside two- and three-bedroom affordable homes.

Homes will include improved accessibility requirements and electric vehicle charging points, with heating and hot water to be provided via air source heat pumps.

The first homes are due to be released for sale in spring and Anwyl anticipates starting to welcome residents into their new homes from late summer.
