New £65m college opens

WEST Cheshire college has opened the doors to its new £65m campus in Ellesmere Port aimed at people looking to work in the creative and services industries.

The West Cheshire College has admitted around 2,500 students to its campus, which opened for business on Monday, September 5.

The campus features a new 12,249 sq ft rotunda at its core that stands 88ft tall. Facilities within the campus include a 38-seat fine dining restaurant, a replica aircraft cabin, a 150-seat theatre, dance studio, fitness and anatomy lab, a conference centre and a control centre with banks of screens, computers and briefing rooms to set up emergency scenarios for police cadets and other public service students.

Sara Mogel, Principal at West Cheshire College, said: “The College does not have classrooms and staff rooms in the traditional sense, instead we have created learning areas that are real working environments.”

The new facilities mean that students will gain real experience so they are prepared for Phase 2 of the new Ellesmere Port Campus will follow which involves the creation of a new art and design wing in the College’s former vocational centre. This is set to open in spring 2012.
