Six of the best head to Big Apple

SIX North West businesses are off to New York as part of a competition to find international trade leaders.
The companies and their leaders are : Tony Caldeira, managing director of Liverpool-based home textiles supplier Caldeira; Julian Bainbridge, MD of Macclesfield pet food producer MPM Products, Tony Hughes MD of Stockport-based shower manufacturer Hughes Safety Showers, Brian Hay, chief executive of Manchester shipping solutions company Cardinal Maritme Group, Noel Patterson, a director of historic Liverpool lubricant manufacturer RS Clare & Co, and Gareth Frankland, chief executive of East Lancashire lightings firm ACDC.
All are regional finalists in HSBC’s Business Thinking initiative. The scheme identifies and rewards the UK’s most innovative and forward-thinking companies.
The companies will attend an international Thought Exchange visit to New York to meet other businesses and experts and explore international business development opportunities.
Upon their return the finalists will refine their business case and two companies will become regional winners, receiving up to £6m in lending and a financial reward of up to £120,000 each. The overall UK winner could net up to £240,000.
