Economist Vosa to assess recovery outlook

LEADING economist Tom Vosa will assess the impact of the recent turbulence in the US and Eurozone on the UK, at a business lunch today.

Vosa, head of market economics at National Australia Bank, which owns Yorkshire Bank,  will address business leaders and professional advisers at an event in Manchester.

He will give his views on the possibility of a ‘double dip’ recession in the light of the continuing crisis over sovereign debt in Europe and the weak recovery in the US.

The event is being hosted by John Newman, area director for corporate banking at Yorkshire Bank’s Corporate & Structured finance team.

John Newman said: “Tom always gives a straightforward and insightful assessment of the economic outlook, and we are looking forward to welcoming him again to the North West.john newman

“With much uncertainty in the Eurozone and also the US economy failing to grow as much as hoped, it will be fascinating to hear Tom’s thoughts on the recovery from a national and regional perspective.”

Guests include Nick Kelsall, chief executive of AIM-listed Norcros, which makes showers and tiles for the home improvement sector, and Nick Taylor, finance director of Begbies Traynor Group.

Banking lawyers, Simon Woolley of Eos, Nigel Dale of Eversheds and Matthew Morgan from Pinsent Masons are also attending.

Earlier this week Chancellor George Osborne said it was likely that 2011 growth forecasts will be scaled back again due to the weak outlook, while the Institute of Directors today called for a second round of quantitative easing to help breathe life into the economy.
