£16m Sellafield contract for ventilation firm

A BURY-based sheet metal products firm has won a £16m contract to supply the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing site in Cumbria.

Senior Hargreaves will replace old ventilation systems, re-route exhaust ductwork and create a new filter and fan house with discharge stack for the £80m project.

The stack associated with the primary separation and head end facility, a major landmark on the site, is to be decommissioned and replaced by a new stack with a new fan house and filtration banks.

Ventilation from the Separation Area Ventilation building will therefore need to be re-routed, requiring the fabrication and installation by Hargreaves of a network of 3,000 metres of ductwork.

The flues within the new stack will also be made by Senior Hargreaves as will the filter banks and fan housings.

Managing director Kevin White said: “Senior Hargreaves has been involved in ventilation works at Sellafield for over 30 years. There are very few significant buildings on site to which we have not supplied ductwork. The nuclear industry has very exacting demands and we are pleased to meet these standards, deliver projects to schedule and have an exemplary health and safety record.”
