Appointments: Nutbeen joins Berg; Two promoted at Clearwater; GT’s rising stars

EMMA Nutbeen has been appointed as head of intellectual property at Manchester law firm Berg Legal.

Nutbeen, who has joined from Heatons, has extensive experience in business and practice and previously worked for retailer Matalan as head of legal.

As well as her role in Berg Legal’s commercial team, Emma she use her business development experience to assist the firm’s marketing team.

Her in-house and industry experience will be immensely valuable in bolstering our commercial team in its mission to provide our clients with clear and effective legal advice on all commercial issues.”

CLEARWATER Corporate Finance has promoted two directors to partner at its Manchester office.
 
Biller, a founding employee of Clearwater in 2003, is an key member of the firm’s chemicals and industrials team and previously was a senior analyst from London-based investment banking firm Livingstone Partners.

Iley, who also joined the firm in 2003, previously worked at Old Mutual Securities in Birmingham and in KPMG’s transaction services team. He has led deals in the consumer sector, including the equity investment in contemporary furniture retailer Dwell by Key Capital Partners.

ACCOUNTANCY firm Grant Thornton has appointed 22 new trainees in its North West offices, including graduates, placement students and school leavers.
 
Graduate recruits make up the majority of the new trainees – and those selected have begun three-year training programmes at the firm’s Manchester and Liverpool offices.

GT has taken on a number of university students on 12 month placements, and also two students on summer work experience from China.
 
A number of trainees have also been taken on to Grant Thornton’s school leaver programme.

North West Managing Partner at Grant Thornton, David Grundy, said: “It is an increasingly difficult market out there for graduate and trainee job hunters. Competition is fierce and those that have been selected will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in a working environment housing some of the most experienced professionals in the industry.”

MATTHEWS & Goodman have recruited Roger Gifford to head up the firms management accounts function in its expanding Manchester office. 

Mr Gifford has operated as a private consultant for a number of years following work within client accounting divisions at a number of surveying firms in London.

The appointment will enable Matthews & Goodman to expand its Property Management Division in the North West, based across both the Liverpool and Manchester offices.

Alex Whilde, head of property management in the Manchester office, said: “Client accounting is an extremely important aspect of the property management service we provide to clients. We are delighted Roger has recognised the high standards we strive to attain across all service lines and welcome the experience he brings to the team.”

The recruitment follows the merger of Matthews & Goodman with Edmund Kirby.
