Bglobal strikes new Npower deal

SMART metering firm Bglobal has signed new deals with energy supplier Npower worth £7.6m over the next 12 months.

The Blackburn-based business will provide meters and installation services to Npower’s business customers. It will also provide new data services. The company has already installed meters for 25,000 Npower customers.

Smart meters collect data to allow users to tailor consumption to the most efficient times. The technology also means energy companies do not need to employ meter readers to visit customers.

Bglobal also said it will work with British Gas to install real-time display energy meters in up to 23,000 schools in England.

According to the company schools account for around 2% of UK green house gas emissions. The new meters are expected to help reduce consumption by up to 10-15% and should save a 900-pupil secondary school more than £3,000 a year on fuel bills.

Chief executive Tony Barnes said: “Forward-thinking energy supply companies are putting smart metering at the heart of their commercial and industrial customer programmes. This is clearly demonstrated by Npower’s push in the business sector and we are delighted to be continuing to support their plans with our end-to-end service.”

He added: “With sizable agreements in place to install meters and provide data services for major energy supply customers for the year ahead and with our operational performance demonstrating renewed growth we are confident of our position as we move towards our new financial year.”

Bglobal’s installation programme is recovering from disruption caused by bad winter weather. Some 4,200 meters were installed last month. The company has also won a string of new contracts with the National Blood Transfusion Service, Aviva, Apcoa Parking, Dorset Fire Brigade, Greater Manchester Police, Manchester Metropolitan University and Transport for London.
