Manchester Tourism Awards winners revealed

THE Mint Hotel in Piccadilly was named ‘Hotel of the Year’ at the 2011 Manchester Tourism Awards, which took place this afternoon.

Thehotel, which was previously known as City Inn, changed hands last week as the Mint Hotels business was sold to private equity firm Blackstone in a £600m deal.

Other winners at the event, which was organised by Marketing Manchester, also saw Museum of Science & Industry named as ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ award and the Manchester Christmas Markets as ‘Large Tourism Event of the Year’.

Large Tourism Retailer of the Year: The Trafford Centre
Small Visitor Attraction of the Year: The Fusilier Museum

Marketing Manchester chief executive Andrew Stokes said: “Over the last 12 months we have seen the number of international visitors to the city increase by 5%. Business visits are up 16% and we have made a particular impression on the Far East – with three times the number of visitors from Singapore. Interestingly, China has also entered our ‘top ten’ country markets for the first time.

“These are impressive figures and testament to the continued investment in tourism marketing and infrastructure.”
