BAE Systems set to wield jobs axe again

DEFENCE giant BAE Systems is set to announce another savage round of job cuts in response to falling orders.
Weekend reports suggested that the manufacturing giant’s Warton factory near Preston and a plant at Brough, East Yorkshire will bear the brunt of the expected 3,000 job losses.
Union leaders, who are calling for urgent talks with management, describe the potential cuts as a “hammer blow” to industry.
BAE, which has axed hundreds of North West jobs over the past year and announced the closure of its sites at Woodford, Stockport, and Chadderton, Oldham, has confirmed it is reviewing its operations.
