Discover Leisure closed after administration

CARAVAN and motorhome retailer Discover Leisure has gone into administration.

Administrators Mark Firmin and Paul Flint, of KPMG, have closed the business, which has sales sites in Cheshire and Lancashire, as they seek a buyer.

Trading in Discover Leisure shares was suspended on Friday as the Yorkshire-based company admitted it was struggling with “funding issues”.

Earlier in the week the firm had posted a pre-tax loss of £1.5m on the back of falling turnover and warned it faced a tough winter period.

Mr Firmin, KPMG’s northern head of restructuring, said: “Discover has faced a difficult market over an extended period of time, with persistently depressed consumer demand for high value discretionary items in particular.

“Whilst it is regrettable that we have had to close the dealerships over the weekend, we are working towards a solution to rescue some or all of the business.”

The administrators are expected to make a number of redundancies at the company’s sites in York, Newbald, Delamere, Chorley, Darlington and Birtley.
