£5.5m facelift for Kings Gap Court Hotel

WIRRAL Council has given planning consent to transform the Kings Cap Court in Hoylake in a £5.5m redevelopment.
The project, being overseen by Liverpool-based architecture firm Falconer Chester Hall (FCH), will start in June with the hotel expected to reopen in the second quarter of 2011.
The 56-bed hotel will be operated by Sanguine Hospitality under the Holiday Inn Express brand.
Nick Taplin, managing director at Sanguine Hospitality, said: “There’s a big demand for accommodation in Hoylake, largely due to its location and proximity to Royal Liverpool, which played a big factor in our decision to increase investment when others in the industry are putting their plans on hold.”
FCH put forward a scheme that will see the removal of extensions and annexes added onto the building over the years.
Planning officers said the demolition of the added buildings could be considered to enhance the conservation area in which it stands. The removal of unsympathetic extensions has also enabled FCH to create an improved frontage to the hotel.
FCH’s Alastair Shepherd said: “The new-look Kings Gap Court Hotel will… [provide] the area with a high-quality hotel that will attract international visitors, as well as providing superb leisure and dining facility for local residents.”
Originally a pair of private dwellings, the building first became a hotel in the 1930s.
