DOOR manufacturer Industrial Door Engineering (IDE) has been sold to Australian company Monsoon Industries PTY for an undisclosed sum.

The Northwich-based family owned company has a turnover of £3m a year and employs 40 staff.

The sale has strengthened Austral Monsoon’s position in the UK industrial door market and supports its ownership of Dover Vanguard Roller Shutters Limited (DVRS), another specialist UK door manufacturer.

It will also safeguard IDE’s strong market presence in the UK building and construction markets

IDE – which was founded by husband and wife team Daniel and Deborah Lees in 1979 – was advised on the deal by RSM Tenon.

The existing general manager of IDE, Martin Burke, has been appointed to head-up Austral Monsoon’s operations in the UK, and the company will continue to manufacture a comprehensive range of quality industrial roller shutter products including steel, insulated and fire resistant roller shutters.

John Daly, corporate finance director at RSM Tenon, said: “We are delighted to have advised Mr and Mrs Lees during this acquisition.

“The directors of the business have found an excellent new parent company in Austral Monsoon, and its proven track record with DVRS demonstrates that the acquisition will bring key strategic benefits to IDE’s position as a market leader, and allowing the company to continue its growth strategy with the support of a committed parent.”

Martin Burke said: “I am delighted to continue my role in the business as we begin a new phase in IDE’s expansion and development.

“Daniel and Deborah built an experienced team of professionals at IDE and are leaving the business in a strong position, having firmly established the company as a nationally recognised specialist in the industrial door sector.

“Our new relationship with Austral Monsoon enables IDE to rise to new challenges and we look forward to future successes.”
