Salford Software aims to save NHS millions

SALFORD Software has saved Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust around £200,000 over the next five years.

The company, which specialises in identity and access management technology, has installed its ‘identity management solution’ (IDM) software for the trust.

This system will streamline all human resources and salary records, internal phone systems, patient records and car park passes.

The trust previously spent around £40,000 a year on the administrative costs linked to this process.

Salford Software has calculated that if the NHS installed its software across all its hospitals it would save it over £75m over five years.

James Rawlinson, assistant director IT services and Medical Records at Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, said: ““Identity Management has eliminated the time and cost to Mid Yorkshire of provisioning and de-provisioning users from the system and resetting user passwords.

“This works by providing every NHS worker with the ability to be added or deleted once – across all internal systems.

“By implementing Password Self Service the cost of using the Health Informatics Services (HIS) Help Desk for password resets has been dramatically reduced.”

Salford Software has IDM projects underway in around 28 different NHS Trusts at present and has seen an increase in demand.

James Doggart, managing director of Salford Software, said: “The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust will save just short of £200,000 in the next five years thanks to its identity management implementation.

“If that were replicated across all 375 of the UK’s NHS Trusts – it would save £75 million – but not only that, it will provide the NHS with an increased level of security and improved information governance.

“IDM will help to ensure that those employees accessing sensitive patient data do so based upon their identity and access rights making trusts compliant with security directives issued by the government.

“In a time when the NHS is looking to reduce costs and make systems more efficient, the impact of an IDM solution can be rapid whilst making internal systems far more secure and personalised to a specific NHS employee based upon their job function.”
