Topps pleased with progress despite sales decline

TOPPS Tiles sald that sales slipped by a further 4.2% during the first 13 weeks of its financial year, which began on October 2.
The company’s non-executive chairman, Michael Jack, said that in the context of the 6.9% decline it had already reported for the first 7 weeks of its financial year, the clawback made in the past six meant it was “encouraged” by the progress being made by the firm.
“Looking ahead, the board remain very conscious of the difficult outlook for the consumer in 2012 but we believe that our strategy of offering outstanding value for money combined with exceptional levels of service will continue to deliver the best results for both our customers and our shareholders.”
He added that the company, whose headoffice functions are based at Handforth, Cheshire, would continue its “prudent” expansion plans, proposing to open five new stores this year.
