Vauxhall’s £100m contracts for domestic suppliers

VAUXHALL has announced £100m worth of contracts for UK-based suppliers.

The company, which has two major manufacturing sites at Ellesmere Port and Luton, said the boost for the domestic supply chain follows the creation of the Automotive Council last year.

The Automotive Council was set up by the industry to ensure its long term strategic development.

The work undertaken by the Council helps refocus attention on the UK manufacturing sector and the sector’s invaluable contribution to a balanced economy in the UK.

Expanding and growing the UK’s supply chain is the key objective of one of the Council’s working groups, the Supply Chain Council, chaired by Bill Parfitt who is also chairman and  chief executive of Vauxhall Motors and General Motors UK.

The value of the new business secured by Vauxhall for UK suppliers will be over £100m during the life of the contracts.

New opportunities with Vauxhall for the UK manufacturing supply chain range from supplying internal trim components for Vauxhall manufacturing sites to providing components for other GM global manufacturing locations.

The service sector has also won Vauxhall contracts providing support with dealer design and project management.

Mr Parfitt, said: “The creation of the Automotive Council and the renewed focus on manufacturing has re-emphasised the UK as a key sourcing location.

“We were able to award these contracts to suppliers in the UK as each contract showed a beneficial business case, including excellent quality and lower transportation costs.”
