Secured Mail expands after DHL deal

NORTH West postal services company Secured Mail has boosted its geographical reach with the acquisition of part of industry giant DHL’s business.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, includes a depot in Northamptonshire, which employs more than 55 people.

Warrington-based Secured Mail has bought DHL UK’s Downstream Access unit which counts retailers Debenhams and Mothercare and Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank owner National Australia Group among its customers.

“DHL Global Mail UK’s network and national coverage in the Downstream Access market, allied to Secured Mail’s existing services and client-base, creates a significant player in the postal market and cements our position in the marketplace.
 
“This strategic acquisition offers existing and future customers access to the most transparent and visible postal operator in the UK.”
 
Chairman Paul Carvell, added: “The deal reflects our strategy of organic growth combined with acquisitions that complement our business model.”

Secured Mail, was founded in 2006 and has 150 staff at its Warrington base and its site at Dartford, Kent. Turnover last year was £48m.
